Victorian House, Co. Wicklow

This project was a doer-upper and required a lot of updates in terms of re-wiring, new windows and doors, new radiators and new lime plastering on walls to prepare it for the interior design and decoration stage. The previous kitchen was tiny and was located in the room which is now used as a utility room. The old dining room was converted into a kitchen-dining room with the introduction of new Shaker style white kitchen cabinets with brass effect handles.

Antique furniture was thrown into the mix with an eclectic range of accessories to inject a lot of personality into the space. Colour was used to great effect in the living room with contrasting colours and patterns. Decorative plaster egg-and-dart cornicing and an ornate ceiling rose was introduced in the living room to elevate the sense of grandeur in this room typical of many middle-class Victorian houses.

Throughout the house, there is this common thread of carefully combining old and new elements to reveal the house’s history but also to reveal a stylish, comfortable home that suits 21st century living and the clients’ tastes.
